Albury City Council has released a draft Urban Forest Strategy for Albury. The initiative proposes to increase the overall canopy cover for AlburyCity from 13.2% to 30% by 2050. Council will work with the community to protect the existing established trees and extend the urban forest with a diverse and resilient plant palette.
Albury Conservation Co has made a submission through the engagement framework commending Council for developing this challenging new project. We noted the importance of retaining the existing large hollow bearing trees for key threatened species in Albury such as the Squirrel Glider. Enhancing this core habitat with new plantings can support greater populations of all animals making Albury a more sustainable community.
